Qigong

What is Qigong?
Qigong is a gentle exercise practice that combines slow movement, breathing, and meditation to support physical, mental, and spiritual well-being.
The word Qigong comes from a traditional Chinese culture.
Qi means life energy, which flows through the body.
Gong means to work or to develop a skill through practice.
Qigong usually involves slow, flowing movements in conjunction with measured, calm breathing. Qigong can be practised in a standing or seated position.
Qigong movements are soft and repetitive, require no sitting on the floor, and are suited to people of all ages and abilities, including those with health conditions.
There are many benefits to Qigong, including reduced stress and anxiety, improved balance and flexibility, increased energy levels, a calmer mind and emotions, and support for healing and relaxation.
Qigong is often known as 'a walking meditation.'
Qigong is a simple practice to follow, with more focus on the flow of energy than on holding long poses. Qigong moves are simple, easy to remember and powerful. As the body moves slowly, the mind also settles.

My Own Qigong Teaching Practice
I am very aware of the mind-body connection, especially in the context of healing. I believe the body is very capable of healing if we only allow the process to begin. Qigong is very much an energy-based practice that promotes the healthy flow of energy throughout the body. I specifically use Qigong moves to help create a healthy flow of energy, which then supports the body's healing.
I am passionate about promoting Qigong to people of all ages and abilities in the community, so I use exercises that are easy to follow and understand. More importantly, I think it is important to teach Qigong exercises that participants can remember and follow, so they can continue the class with a home-based exercise plan. It is better to practice a little Qigong every day rather than just one class a week, as the body and mind benefit more from regular practice.
I also hold specific topics in Qigong classes, such as menopause, anxiety, stress, and immunity boosting, to name just a few. I often run workshops that combine my passions for Qigong and therapeutic writing. These mini retreats are usually about three hours long, but participants get significant benefit from them, as they allow them to completely immerse themselves in a few hours of relaxation.
